I have a 7'6" Diawa Tought and Lite flippin stick, with a Diawa TDS103HSDL baitcasting reel and I dont know what line I should put on it for Lake AMistad. I put some Yo Zuri 20 pound Hybrid on it but dang its like a slinky the minute you put it on there I have some 30 pound briad in a green color, some 20 pound XPS flouro carbon, some 20 pound XPS green mono and some 17 pound Trilene XL green colored. Ill be flipping and pitching mostly to the grass beds and flats on Amistad all year and Im really wanting to go the braid route as it has no memory but will the fish see and hear it? If I use the moss green briad should I take a marker to it and camo it more? Amistad is gin clear 95 percent of the time, I would like to hear from some amistad fishermen on what they do! Thanks Danny
Thanks Bitman

Danny this is a fishing line question and you may get more responses in the bass fishing section. I have never fished Amistad so I can't answer your question directly. I do like McCoys Mean Green copolymer line and use 20 pound test for fishing jigs at Lake Fork. Braided line I like P-line and flouro. Carbon Pro or Invizx. Many members on here have posted that they like XPS flouro. but I have not tried it.
AmistadMan is a regular on this site but he is out of town for a while otherwise he would give you some information.

I'd go with 25 pound test fluorocarbon.
Seaguar InvisX is very good for this application. I suspect Sunline Shooter would also work well, as would Silver Thread Fluorocarbon.

Let me put it this way: I asked a friend if 50 pound braid would work and he said no. I asked him why and he said go to at least 85 pound braid. He said that you need line this heavy to rip up branches and grass when a 12 pound fish gets wrapped around it.

I use 50/12lb power pro braid and when I get hung real good on a tree or stump, I have to press down on the spool and usually put the trolling motor in reverse to get anything done. This will accomplish 1 of 2 things;
1) Break the limb, tree or stump off and pull it in or 2) Bend the hook straight on a stanley jig. Very rarely does the line bust when doing this.
I fish at Choke Canyon often, and being a near similar lake, I would say that 50/12lb is just perfect.
just my $.02

or...
3) Crush your reel spool. (at least according to the very experienced Ray Roberts guide Lindy Roberts; so be careful. He suggest to wrap a small board or good stick wrap around the line between the rod tip and bait, then pull the stick like a handle rather than putting all that force on your reel.)
Id go with whatever TFP says but I thought I would pass along one braid tip from the Alton Jones seminar at the Outdoors Show. He likes to use white braid with a Gamma fluorocarbon leader for flipping. Then he uses a marker to camo the first few feet of the braid. The reason for this is that he can better detect bites while line watching the white line at and above the water while maintaining low visibility below the water.
