hop that looks amazing. We were headed offshore for marlin and sailfish but the weather and waves didn't cooperate so we changed plans and fished out from the main point of Mantapalo. They don't allow nets in that area so we caught bait(Pompano/goggle-eye) on small spinning rods and that was even fun. I'm already trying to figure out how to get back with a few friends.

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Awesome! I was just looking at a trip to CR for me, my wife and our two sons. Wife and youngest aren't much into fishing, so I was trying to find a place that could accommodate my fishing desires and my wife's needs for poolside relaxation and some eco tour stuff. With that in mind, I looked at Crocodile Bay. Heard nothing but good things, but it looked like it would cost about $6K for 5 nights, with just two days of fishing. And that didn't include flights from here into San Jose. That was another 4K roughly. So from my research, I was estimating a 10K trip.

Can any of you recommend an avenue that would get us there at a cheaper price, or is that the price you have to pay to get there and experience it all?

It sounds like y'all are looking for something similar to our trip. I passed crocodile bay by car daily and by water both half days and from what I heard the atmosphere is leaning towards fishing. We used Diego a great guy for both a dolphin/whale/snorkling tour and my fishing he has 2 different boats and I highly recommend him if you stay near Puerto Jimenez. We stayed half the trip at the Pelican house https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/424775 and half at Iguana lodge. http://iguanalodge.com/

We drove from SJ which I highly recommend(you really need a car for the whole trip anyway) then flew back to SJ

Shoot me a PM with ??? I got to know that area pretty good in 8 days

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

You fly into San Jose and either rent a car (400 a week but don't get insurance ripoff) or take grey line bus to Manuel Antonio area. Lots of stuff to do and good fishing also. Stay as close to the park as possible and you will have the monkeys, sloths and other animals come in. We stay at La Posada Jungle bungalows. Great people and it is next to park. Small and affordable but book early. They have outstanding reviews on trip advisor so they are in demand. Kids will see a deer that comes up and lots of times small monkeys will come in and take bananas from your hands. Good to great beaches. Atv tours, zip lining, snorkeling and of course fishing. Went last nov and told guide wanted a rooster. Tuna and dorado are great if you go offshore also. Going back in nov and going to La Posada again. I have caught sails tuna and dorado and now a rooster so not sure what I want to fish for next.

Gibby,
Look on groupon or bookit.com for resorts near playa flamingo or grand papagayo that include flights. I highly recommend booking a trip with Skeet Warren on the Bushwacker. Later part of June through July seemed to be excellent. He had several consecutive days where multiple Marlin were caught. Including one day where they landed 11 sailfish and 3 Marlin.
