I was at Ray Hubbard last weekend bank fishing off of miller road by the railroad tracks..I was having a great time. I complaint is why do boats when they see a bank fisherman decide to speed up causing a prety good size wake each time? Is it funny or plain rude. I was fishing in a no wake zone also not far off of shore, so the boater had plenty of room from my line to his boat..2 or 3 of them did it..I could not say much but just shake my head, when they seen us shaking our heads they would gun it...Would you boaters please be courteous to us bank fisherman...WE do not hurt anyone or cause problems to anyone..It would be the same as if your in your favorite fishing hole on the lake and a boat game close to you at full throttle....Thanks.......and one more thing.....The A-Holes that gunned their boats passed us were in for a shock cause they hit stumps that raised 2 motors and killed one......So for own safety also please slow it down..

I used to fish off of those rocks. The worst thing that ever happened to me was some jerks throwing bottles at me from there car while I was sitting there fishing.

Its a vicious circle my friend. I think they are ticked because they got nailed by a wake boarder--->They nail you on shore--->they hit a stump. In your case good to see that the dragon has bitten his tail! However it is hard to put ALL boaters in the same catagory. BTW, ever shot a wrist rocket? J/K

Hey thanks for the replies and kind words The reason I wrote my piece is because I read your story riverrat.......I know all boaters are not like that cuz The most of them slowed down when they seen me and I really appreciate that....Its just the few that ruins a good day.......Just like the road rage drivers I guess.....Everyone have a good weekend.Im going to Roberts this weekend.....

Unfortunately driving a boat doesn't require anything but a way to get it to the launch, fire it up, and go. No learners permit or license required.

If everyone were required to attend a FREE Coast Guard Boating Safety course before they could launch maybe things would improve slightly. Boaters would at the very least LEARN the Maritime Rules and regulations and then maybe folks would know that 'speeding through a no wake zone' is not only illegal and can result in a fine if the Lake Ranger were to care, but it is a rule that should be obeyed...

I've seen the Lake Rangers pull some stupid stuff also so there's no way to win... If the enforcers don't respect the Maritime Laws then ordinary folks that are clueless surely won't either... Speeding on the highways is the number one law broken daily in the US; icehole boaters are one of life's trials...

Sorry from a boater that cares about the image and sportmanship we display to others on the lake...

Tight Lines...

Unless the boat came off plane and slowed waayy down they may have been doing you a favor. The faster a boat goes the smaller the wake.
I don't know the circumstances or the area but if the navigatable waters were narrow thats where they need to run. If I saw you and it was a narrow or dangerous area I would have slowed way down.
