I'm looking to get a new spinning reel. Wondering what the best reel is for around $100.

Shimano Symetre is my choice in that price range. Very smooth reel.

my wife fishes the Shimano spinners all of the time and while she likes the Stradic I agree with Minner that for the price the Symetre is a better buy. She is still using some that are 15 years old.
And parts for those reels are still available if you really use them a lot and wear some parts out.

^^^ I have 2 Pfluegers, a President and a Supreme. Both are awesome pieces of quality machinery, but the President is quite a bit lower in cost.

Shimano Sahara for $80. A good quality reel that will last years.

Pflueger President 6935 at around $55 for most applications L, M, and MH
For a Heavy spinning rod and heavier braid big topwaters/flipping the Shimano Sienna 4000FD is a beast of a reel for under $40. Not the lightest reel, but it will take heavy braid with some mono backing no problem.
For $100 you could get one of each.

Shimano Symetre FL For $100 you won't find a better reel. Super smooth drag, lightweight, and strong. This reel will take a beating.

This one in my book trumps anything built these days and for a really great price. Its the Shimano Spirex. I own two of these as well as an older Quantum and Shimano of this design. The double handle and the trigger cast system speeds up you water coverage tremendously by allowing you to grab the crank handle quicker, and the trigger system allows you to go through the entire cycle of a cast using one hand. I absolutely love these reels......all of mine are rear drag as well...... http ://www.basspro.com/Shimano-Spirex-RG-Rear-Drag-Spinning-Reel/product/104123/
