I had a Motorguide Tour Edition for 8 years on my boat and the cables snapped twice and had some other issues. It does have power though. This is I switched to a Fortrex and absolutely love it. Will never go back to Motorguide.

Of possible interest. MG is manufactured in China and MK is manufactured in America

To add fuel to the fire....how much better if any is the 112 vs 101 Fortrex? There is an obvious and noticeable power difference. I love the 112 I put on my boat. Seems I also get just a tad better life out of the batteries too. It seems to run more efficient.

I have had both. I have actually had fewer issues with my Motor Guides. I had to have the MinnKota resealed because the lower unit leaked and shorted out. I also had bushings that needed to be replaced every few years on the MinnKota. When I asked the repair shops which gave better service they all said they are about the same.

The information is out there if you want to use statistics instead of opinions, but Motor Guide spends less time in the shop than any other. Call around to places that repair both and see how many of each they see a year. Also, Minn Kota has terrible customer service. I used to be a Minn Kota guy until the head of my Minn Kota fell off when it was 3 months old and Minn Kota fixed it 3 times before a year was up. Instead of replacing it they just half assed it until the warranty went out and then said sorry for your bad luck. That was the end for me. I've had Motor Guide warranty minor repairs even after the warranty was out.

Used both, like 'em both. Price and features are the key. Find what fits you. You can't go wrong.
