I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but I live in Dallas and most of the ponds and lakes I've fished in seem pretty gross, trash etc. Even the ones that don't look gross are still in very urban areas and I suspect the pollution runoff into those bodies of water must be pretty high. I just don't feel comfortable eating fish from anywhere in the 50 mile range of the city. But, I do see people keeping their fish all over the city...in fact saw some people keeping fish from Bachman lake, which is basically a collection pool for all of Love Field (disgusting!).
The cleanest ponds I fish in are on golf courses, but I'm sure the pesticides and fertilizers golf courses use get into the ponds which probably makes those fish relatively toxic. Just curious on general thoughts about what fish are safe to eat and what aren't.

My rule is eat the fish only from drinking water reservoirs, never from urban ponds and rivers, except for put-and-take stockings of trout and channel catfish.

Even though the bait fish population is poor at Joe Pool, grass is gone, carp invasion etc on the downside. That water is crystal clear. You can walk out in it from the bank and see every bit of stubble, pebble, small crawdad, snake etc.

Move to Houston & fish. Everyone knows there's no pollution down here. If I catch 25 crappie in Houston, I eat 25 crappie!

I only eat ones that are clean, trimmed and smell nice. I see what you did there.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Just practice catch and release and buy your fish from the seafood market...
