I go across the dam discharge on Lake Ray Hubbard in Garland and the creek is flooded from the gates being open.
Why are they letting water out when the lake still needs to come up?
Thanks,

What happerns if the lake fills up today and another storm hits next week??? Once a lake is spillway full you have lost control.

I don't buy that. They did it last time the lake got rain too. The lake is still about 3ft low.
Glad to have taken..."the trash in the back!"

Most lakes have a seasonal water level to allow for spring rains that prevents flooding, remember that each lake has a down-river lake that may need the water more, or may not be able to handle additional water.

3 ft low is not bad. When gates are open they are trying to get the water down stream to a different lake. Lakes are built to hold water for use. They use lakes upstream to keep lakes downstream from getting way to low.

Ask the folks downstream from Belton and Stillhouse what happens when they don't let enough water out early enough. I promise, you don't want a major reservior, much less two feeding the same river, to go over the spillway like Belton and Stillhouse did in '92. The corps builds lakes for 2 reasons: flood control and water supply. The recreation we all enjoy is pretty far down on the list when it comes to water levels.

Look up the definition of a reservoir, no where in it will it say built for recreation. They are built to hold water.

I'm glad they aren't letting anything out of Canyon. Finally starting to fill back up and the Guadalupe is looking pretty swollen past the dam. Hate to see a repeat of '98 but that's a LOT of water away!
