How many hooks can you have on one line in the Gulf? All I could find in the fishing regs was that in freshwater you had to have less than 100, but nothing for saltwater.

I have an Idea for a fishing rig that would have 6-8 hooks on it to fish different depths on one rod.

I also thought about this for surf fishing as well, any difference in regulations from the surf? I mainly surf fish PINS and Matagorda if it matters.

Good question for a game warden and I would certainly ask before doing anything. I could only find gear restrictions for trotlines in salt water.

From a safety standpoint, if you pull an angry fish into the boat, and which ones aren't going to be angry, do you really want 5 hooks flying around?

Sabiki rigs regularly have 6 hooks on them.

Always wondered about the sabiki rigs legality.

Because I knew the answer but they literally just published the new laws to address the alabama rig issue which dont even take effect till sept 1. A warden told me the 3 hook rule last year at lake calaveras.

I don't know how to begin to explain this to you as you seem to be clueless, but I will try.

First of all, the OP asked about the total number of hooks in the GULF. Last time I visited Lake Calaveras, it was not in the Gulf. It is subject to freshwater regulations, not saltwater.

Second of all, there is not, and there has not been (at least in recent history) any regulation of the number of hooks in saltwater, except as I mentioned regarding sail lines. So you didn't "know the answer".

Third, I checked the new 2015 - 2016 regulations, and there is no change in the number of hooks allowed, freshwater or saltwater. The Alabama Rig doesn't now, nor has it ever been effected by any laws. They are now, and have always been legal (unless they contain more than 100 hooks when used in freshwater). So they didn't "publish new laws to address the Alabama rig issue".

Where do you get this baloney ? Are you just making it up as you go along ?

Back to my original question: If you didn't know the answer, why did you even address the question ? It causes a problem when some folks read your answer and mistakenly believe your answer is correct when it isn't. That just creates more of the "it must be true, I read it on the internet" mentality. If trying to clear up the issue is being an "internet gangster", then judge me guilty.
