Something a little different. 1/8 oz Dart Head with Fish Hair tail. Still experimenting on how to tie these things.

Tommie, before I started tying jigs, the Shad Dart was one of my go to jigs. I have the mold and through the years I've experimented with putting bodies on them, but I found (for me at least) that no body....just bucktail and a thread wrap...works best for me. Good looking jig you have there, though.

I tied a couple with just fish hair and flash. These are the first jigs of this type that I have messed with. Just getting into experimenting with different looks. No body is definitely the easier option and the crappie probably want care either way.

Here is one of the first ones I tied today. Much easier to tie but not feeling the love with the look just yet.

The darts have a great profile when wet and as the name says....they kinda "dart" when vertical jigging.

How do you like the fishhair? I goofed when I placed an order for eyes from the supplier in China when I thought I was getting a few small packages to try. Turns out they weren't packages but huge hanks of it. Just testing the look when the jig is wet....the tail looks nearly identical to bucktail to me. Curious about your thoughts.

Very nice, that should work ..... if you want to make the body smaller you can try ostrich herl.

I have several sizes of those shad dart heads, and I do like the look of the one you tied with just hair and thread.

I am liking the fish hair. It's much easier to use than bucktail with the same look and action. I had originally only ordered a couple of colors, but I'm going to order more for a variety. I'm thinking about trying some UV goop and a curing light on the thread wrap version. If anyone has some pics of these jigs they have tied and would like to share, I'd love to see some different examples for reference.

Looks good! I have tied them with a body and did fine with them, but mostly with regular chenille. Not sure I ever tried a Mylar body as that was before I was into Mylar. So for me either way is probably fine, but you sure can add some color with a nice chenille body.

Still playing around with these new heads. Still undecided on how they look the best.

All of these jigs look nice, but on jigs like this most of us are going for the low-profile look. They are times they fish real good. Don't over look Guinea feathers for a one of a kind look.

Tommie, the jigs look FANTASTIC! Really love the Electric Chicken look! I think these heads take multiple colors really well. Here's a few I've messed with...

I've also been tying some Micro Shad Darts as light as this 1/64oz

I also think the thread neck is a very clean look.

You may want to cast some with long shank Hooks. Really opens up the tying options
