Very nice catch!!! Monster in shallow water took you for a good sleigh ride.
My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

Awesome, Matt. Castaway should buy that footage for a commercial. That lil rod held up big time.

Now that really made me smile That is what I think kayak fishing is all about. Finding the out of the way spots where other anglers have a hard time to getting into, using the kayak as a stealth machine, and snagging a monster! It's what drew me in to fishing from a yak, and will continue to be my drive. I can only hope that I get super lucky and get to go for a fun sleigh ride like that. Cool vid, man. Keep it up!

Great vid... Did you remember to retie after that fight? I have seen BU that big in shallow water, but they woud not take an artifical bait I was throwing. Have you caught many BU on artificals?

I use braid for saltwater and don't remember if I retied after catching that big ugly or not, I do check my line a lot and retie often throughout the day though. I was using a Gulp Shrimp and I believe that helped get that big drum to bite, that and the "doodle socking" of course! That was the biggest black drum I've caught on artificial. I used to catch some big ones with bait, but I haven't been down on the coast very often the past 8 years or so.
