The only adjective that will be worthy of using for the last three Trips of Trout fishing in Galveston Bay is outstanding. Today we got on the water at exactly 1:00 greeted by a strong South East Wind, Incoming Tide and a little bit of fog. The 1st stop along a protected shoreline produced 1 lousy undersized Red on a Topwater. We spent more time there than we probably should had. There was pleanty of nervous mullet which kept us around for that long. We pulled out around 3:45 and headed to another spot where I kinda had a hunch there would be some fish layed up. Sure enough the 2nd cast on Stop #2 produced a good fish about 21 inches or so which was immediately released. We proceded to work em over, catching and releasing 20 or so Trout from 18-22" and numerous flounder. We caught em all on Dark Colored Bass Assasins over Hard Sand. We didn't catch any real good fish today but it was definatley nice to put the hurt on some numbers. The bite there shut off after about 30 minutes of catching. With about 15 minutes of Daylight left we hit one more spot and quickly caught one more and had a few more bites. We put it on the Trailer at about 6:45 after a run back to the ramp in the dark and Patchy Fog.
I had something happen to me today thats never happened before...CROSS-LOCK SNAP CAME UNDONE...I knew it was gonna happen sooner or later...The only thing I can figure out is that I changed from The ROSCO brand to a Bass Pro Version of the same exact thing. Either That or I just got a dud that went bad on me. Well, It definatley went bad...and the real bad thing is the fish that I had on prior to it was probably the best one of the day...not over 6 lbs but a good 5 lber at least.
The past two weeks has been excellent for Winter Trout Fishing. We've seen numbers and we've seen quality. One day we will catch numbers the next day we will grind it out for some good ones...
One thing that really amazed me today is we saw water Temps Ranging from 59 to 68 degrees. We had the best action in 63 degrees. The first place we stopped the water temp was showing 67-68 degrees which was a large mud flat with about 2' of water on top of it....just something to think about....
Anybody who's looking to get in on the action give me a Call at (409) 789-8044. I'm also booking Spring Drum Trips now which is a great deal for families and kids looking to catch big fish and have a good time with some pretty Spring Weather.
Tight Lines.
