HAS ANYONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR GEL COAT FLAKING OFF ON THEIR TAHOES? I BOUGHT A NEW Q4 FISH AND SKI OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR, AND HAD IT ON THE WATER ABOUT 20 HOURS THIS SUMMER. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT OUT OF THE WATER I FOUND SEVERAL SPOTS ON THE HULL WERE THE GEL COAT HAD STARTED CRACKING AND FLAKING OFF. WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO BE SERVICED AND WINTERIZED, THEY GOT EST. FOR REPAIRS, AND THE FACTORY DECIDED IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HULL RATHER THAN TO MAKE THE REPAIRS. LOOKING AT SIX MONTHS UNTIL I GET BOAT BACK. IT WILL BE ONE YEAR OLD, AND ONLY USED 20 HOURS. JUST WANTED TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE PROBLEM. DIDN'T KNOW IF I GOT A LEMON, OR IF IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF BOAT.

I've heard several things just like this about this line of boats.

First, Nearly all boats can have gel coat/ laminate problems, it's actually amazing more don't have issues than do.
If they are replacing your hull, then that's about as good as they'll do, I understand the pain in not having your boat to use, but at least they stepped up and did the right thing.
Open mold fiberglass construction is a delicate balance of chemistry and conditions, if the temperature, pressure, humidity change during the process it can cause issues like you experience.

I work for a Tahoe dealer and I have never seen or heard this to be a ongoing problem, granted I see air bubbles pop every now and then but not a on going problem,PAT is right about stepping up to the plate and replacing the boat,I dont think you would be happy if they just repaired the bad places and down the road it happened again,I know its a pain to buy something and turn around and send it back to the factory and have it repaired but thank goodness they stood behind it.

OK GUYS, I DID NOT POST THIS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SERVICE I WAS GETTING, JUST WANTED TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE PORBLEM WITH THE HULL, AND WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR BOAT. TAHOE HAS NOT GIVEN ME ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. THE ONLY TROUBLE I HAD WAS GETTING A QUOTE FROM 3RD PARTY ON GLASS WORK. I NEVER EXPECTED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE HULL, I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER ABOUT THAT. I KNOW IT WILL BE RIGHT WHEN I GET IT BACK, AND I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE THAT I HAVE GOTTEN FROM TRACKER IN MIDLAND. WILL TRY TO POST SOME BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES AT A LATTER DATE. HOPEFULLY WITH SOME FISH TO GO WITH THE BOAT.

WELL IT HAS BEEN ALMOST TWO WEEKS SINCE I AGREEDED TO LET TAHOE REPLACE THE HULL OF MY Q4, BUT FOR SOME REASON THE BOAT IS STILL SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND HAS NOT BEEN PUT ON A TRUCK TO RETURN IT TO THE FACTORY. I AM NOW ALMOST FOUR MONTHS INTO GETTING THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. STILL NO RESULTS.

I STARTED OUT AT THE DEALERSHIP IN ABILENE WHERE I BOUGHT THE BOAT, THEY HAD THE BOAT FOR THREE MONTHS, AND WERE NOT ABLE TO GET A GLASS COMPANY TO COME AND LOOK AT IT. I WENT AND PICKED IT UP AND BROUGHT IT BACK TO MIDLAND, WHERE IT HAS BEEN SINCE. THEY GOT THE ESTIMATE WITHIN TWO DAYS, AND WHEN I WENT IN TO SIGN THE PAPERS TO SEND IT BACK, THEY TOLD ME THE TRUCK WOULD BE THERE THAT MORNING. SERVICE TECH SAID THAT THEY WERE GETTING ONE TO TWO TRUCKS PER WEEK, IF THEY DID NOT GET IT SENT THAT DAY, IT WOULD SURELY BE SENT OFF BY THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. YET TODAY IT IS STILL SITTING THERE.

They may just be sending another hull to the dealer for you. Most boats are rigged at the dealer. If they are doing that then your boats rigging will come off your old hull and then they will put it on the new one at the dealer. That's what the did to a friends crestliner when his hull cracked.

I would be very surprised if Tracker Boats in Midland will ever solve your problems.. I have found them to be less than professional in any capacity- repairs/warrenty/etc.... From what I understand- Ranger has dropped them as a dealer because of their lack of service.. Good luck and I do hope they take care of you..

Pusher-- Good luck with Tracker (the old Travis Boating Center). I have had absolutely no luck with these guys and have found them to be less than professional in all areas- repairs/warrenty/ etc. I have heard that Ranger has dropped them as a dealer because of their lack of service and capabilities. I would guess that they are fairly good at selling boats (they sold one to me) but their service is poor. I do hope they will take care of you-- just don't be in any hurry to get your boat back.

I AGREE WITH THEM BEING LESS THAN PROFESSIONAL. THAT IS WHY I WENT TO ABILENE TO BUY THE BOAT TO START WITH, BUT WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM TO GET IT FIXED, I COULD NOT CHECK ON IT SO I BROUGHT IT BACK HERE. AT LEAST NOW I CAN SEE FOR MYSELF WHAT IS BEING DONE, AND WHAT THEY ARE BLOWING SMOKE ABOUT.
