I know I'm late but I wanted to know for next year. When do white bass start there run, what are the best months, and what are the best rivers to go to?
Colorado River off Buchanan? San Gabriel River off Granger? Brazos River off Lake Waco and Lake Whitney? Sabine River?
I'm more than likely going to go to the Colorado this next coming run. Just want to get an idea of when and where to go?

Feb-Apr. is your best bet. The Sabine is hard to beat when the water is right.

Lake Somerville's Yegua creek is good from January to March. Same for the San Gab above Granger. All flowing tributaries of the Brazos above Waco can be very productive. The Navasota river above Limestone is a sleeper but can be very good at the right time. If the Colorado river ever gets any water in it again the section above Buchanan is a well known hot spot..

Colorado Bend State Park.......but its been bad the past years with buchanan being down and no water. If it fills up and there is good spring time rain you cant beat it.

I would be shocked to find a better white bass run year after year than the Sabine River offers. This year was the exception if you didn't get there before mid-Feb. I got my trip in early, before the river got too high. I've made a minimum three day trip to the Sabine once a year for the last ten yrs or so, and only had one bad trip so far, and the river was out of its banks that trip. Many other day trips, all of them productive unless I was just too early, or more often too late because I was trying to squeeze the run for all it was worth.
To me, what makes the Sabine such a great run might not be the fish as much as it is the fishery itself. All the other runs I have fished over the years were land based fishing for the most part, where the water conditions have to be just right, then the run doesn't last long in comparison. On the Sabine, you are boat fishing, can adjust your fishing to match a variety of water conditions (within reason), you can get on good fishing earlier and stay on good fishing much longer. Most runs I know of have maybe two weeks of really awesome fishing in prime conditions, with a couple of transition weeks before and after. The Sabine can provide solid fishing for several weeks in a row because you aren't land based, often more than a month of 100+ fish per person days. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Toledo Bend grows some monster female white bass. It's not fishing in a barrel, but can seem like it once you get dialed in.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

Do you have a specific cabin or location you stay at for those 3 days you could recommend so you would say go end of January to mid end of February some time. Also are there specific spots on the Sabine that you find hold them? What kind of lures do you find to be the most effective, road runners with 3 inch white curl tails?

I've fished several spring white bass runs. None compare to the Sabine run. As far as cabins you are better off getting a hotel in Carthage. As most of the river is privately owned land. I think Jane Gallenbeck has cabins at " River Ridge". You can probably Google that and find a ton of info. Road runners in 1/4oz chart with red head are by far the most popular bait. But crankbaits, traps, rooster tails all work. The Sabine usually is best after Valentine's Day. I wouldn't go in January. My best days have been from February 14-April 1st. March is usually a safe bet. Conditions change every year. There is no telling what next spring holds. Colder than average weather and large amounts of rain fall can affect the fishing greatly. Stay tuned in February and I'm sure reports will tell you when to pull the trigger. If you wanna roll the dice pick March.

By the way the fish will literally be from Toledo bend as far north as 43 near Tatum. The best fishing I think is south of 79 to the lake.

Also do a Search on the Lignite Shoals. If the water level is low, they will stay below the shoals. They not salmon.

I have heard it is great fishing at the Black Shoals between 79 and 59 out of Carthage. As Leadbetter said, the water level has to be low. Are there any YouTube Videos of the Shoals? I can't find much information on them?

Thanks for these tips. I've been hearing anytime in March is good. I'll more than likely go March 1st for a couple days, thanks for the tips.

I've had good results just below the Lake Livingston Dam in February.
