I'd like to go crappie fishing with you one day on Lake Somerville! You know so much about Lake Somerville! QUESTION: How good is the dock at Birch Creek Subdivision (No. 9 on the USCOE Lake Somerville map)?

That's very good news. I spoke to the marina staff and they said its still 8 ft high. The last time I was there, the water was lapping at the boards on the walkway to the little lunching dock.

It's a shame about the damage. It will take years to replace those trees to what they once were if at all.
Just one more cast!

I didn't see anything about volunteering for clean-up efforts.

The Nails Creek unit (state park) is waiting on inspectors to give the OK.. should be soon.. at least for opening the boat ramp at nails... the rest of the park will open a section at a time as repairs are completed. Volunteers will be needed after the safety inspectors give the all clear expected around mid September. Mother Nature's work isn't always pretty especially when she does an ecological reset from time to time. Drought and flooding reek havoc with our plans in the short term but are a small part of a much bigger picture and the conditions we live with and through. People interested in volunteering can contact the Birch Creek Unit at (979) 535-7763, or the Nails Creek Unit at (979) 289-2392. Find the park on Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/nailscreek.statepark?fref=tshttps://www.facebook.com/BirchCreekStatePark

As of this morning Friday September 18th, 2015 the boat ramp at the Nails Creek unit of Lake Somerville State Park & Trailway is open. It is the only part of the whole complex that is open currently. All other areas of the state park (Birch creek unit, the trailway and Nails creek unit) are still being evaluated for flood damage and safety issues. Many of the large trees that died in the flooded parks and on the trailway are at risk of falling so until that risk is dealt with those parts of the state park will remain closed. Most likely the park will open back up in stages starting in October and by early next year be near full operational. Nails Creek Park
