Common problem we are all having right now is HEAT!!!
the last few years haven't been too bad. However this year, due to all the spring rains (equals humidity) and now we are approaching extreme temps. up to 106 later this week.
Your hole shot and mid range and top end will all be down. there really isn't much that can be done. only thing you can do is prop down 2 degrees of pitch to allow the boat to take off and still run close to the max rpms for performance and gas mileage. bogging the engine at w.o.t with a high pitch prop will kill the motor and all performance and the fuel mileage will be terrible. so.. prop down.
time to get a spare. work on your summer time setup and just get through this heat.
call us if you need help.

Exactly! Had a customer yesterday that was complaining about his boat being sluggish. I told him the heat is killing HP. The ethanol even makes it worse.

one other thing ya'll can do in this heat.
don't fill the tanks up (unless you have too)
unload the boat.. most of us carry bass pro in their compartments and the extra weight hurts the performance.
something to think about.

We as humans feel sluggish in this heat so do these motors. The heavier the boat the more noticeable. All the DFI motors have a parameter of self adjustment but it's a small window. Steve suggests a smaller prop, I suggest Nitrous A good example of this delima Saturday with a Gambler/250 EFI, owner couldn't break 63 with a worked 26 Triton. I punched quickly into the 80's earlier in the week, same set-up, different lake, different air and water temp. Now this is a great speed/acceleration difference here (but remember, I've been racing boats since the early 80's). The Gambler owner borrowed a "28" and a "27" (the boat's been spinning a 25 Trophy that Steve worked and runs good for a Trophy I might add) but my 26 Triton out accelerates it hands down. 28 ran 70mph @ 5k, 27 ran 72mph @ 5k (these are typical #'s for tall pitched props this time of year). A proven test year after year with boat owners: Dyno results deminish after a few pulls, reason: wet air around the motor. Steam is created as the motor warms up, and on a 250, there's at least a 10% drop in hp output.

Thanks guys I have noticed my holeshot was [censored] the other day. 2014 FX 21/250 SHO with 25 prop Full load gas tackle etc I knew about hot weather performance but as usual I was looking for gremlins instead of the obvious. I have a 25 that I bought from Steve a few years ago for my ZX 250 it needs to be retuned and have some small nicks repaired. I've been real happy with the boats performance so far I just had a senior moment regarding the hot weather. Thanks again for this Post
