I'm looking to buy a rod for throwing line thru swimbaits 5-6 inches. What rods do y'all use for this technique? Or what power and action do y'all prefer.

There are rods made for this purpose from just about all rod makers. They will range from heavy to xheavy and usually have a fast tip. I would get one that handles baits up to 5-6 ounces just in case you decide to throw bigger. Go to Tacklewarehouse.com and research the rods. They have a pretty good selection so you can make a good decision on what you think you need. They do get pricey but there are some that are reasonable(to me anyway). I know St Croix makes one in the Mojo line and run around $120 I think. They will wear you out for the first few times but I enjoy throwing the big baits.

Dobyns 795ML swimbait rod. He has different rods for swimbait depending on swimbait weights

Shimano 7-9 Cumara A rig rod is a good choice. It is rated for throwing 1-3oz baits. The only thing I don't like so much about this rod is the way you tighten the reel to the rod. You twist the foam part behind the reel for that and it starts to loosen up a bit over time.

Dobyns 795 Swim bait/Mag topwater rod is also a good choice. It is rated for throwing 1-5oz baits. The MT is the standard length handle and the ML version has the longer handle. I have both and like the MT better. I would possibly sell the ML one I have.

You would be able to throw even heavier baits with these rods if you choose to do so.

I have a 795 doybns swimbait rod it works great I usually throw small glide baits and 5-8inch line thu baits

Falcon cara heavy , American rodsmiths swimbait rod, Doybns are way to expensive for an ok rod, most buy Doybns cause it's the cool rod.

If you can wait a few weeks, Dobyns new Fury 795 Swimbait model will be coming out. It should retail for about $120 and would be a great choice.

Thanks guys for the replys. I was looking into the dobyns 795 and 796. I'm gonna stay away from the mike long signature series rods because I don't like how long the handles are. Are y'all using these same rods for fishing the shallow line thru swimbaits that don't have a heavy insert in them

For regular swimbaits that are 1.5oz and under I just use my Falcon Cara Amistad. It's hard to be accurate in the shallows with an 8' Rod. The Amistad is 7'3 and good for all kinds of techniques. Most versatile rod I own by far.

If I'm shallow around cover with the small ones a 7'3" H KLX gets the job done
