I have a $50 gift card to Academy and I'm looking to upgrade my rod. I currently use a 7.5ft whipping stick crappie rod but I'm looking for a little more length and sensitivity. I looked at a 9 ft and 10 ft Mr Crappie and a Berkley c-series. Any recommendations?

Sam Heaton Super Sensitive - Built by B&M. 10 -11- or 12 footers are all good.

I use a Wally Marshall Signature 10 ft. just grab some rods and pick the one that feels the most comfortable and run with it.

I don't know if they still have them, but those tournament choice medium bass rods work great for a crappie rod when paired with a baitcaster.

I bought the 9ft Berkley c-series... Glad I did... If you are deciding between just the 2 that you mentioned, I have both, and my Mr Crappie rod is collecting a lot of dust...

I brought a 8 ft and 10 ft Wally Marshall from there and have been pleased with them. Great choice, great product and the only rods I use! Well, except for Wally's 5 1/5' dock shooter!

Having someone's name on it does not have it better and name brand is worth what a person will pay for it. Academy is as good as any place they are all the same. The thing is hold it in your hands and get the feel and if you will have lots of rods get what you don't have. If you plan to fish one rod the 7 foot will do most all fishing.

May I recommend using that GC on jigs, line and/or a reel and buying a Proangler rod? Best customer service and best crappie rods (and general purpose rods) I've ever used. Good source for sickle hooks and jigs, too.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely not in it for name brand just looking for the best that I can get on my limited budget. Sounds like I really won't make a wrong decision as long as a get the right length. I'll probably go with a 9 footer.

B&M has been the most sensitive for me, I have a couple pro-anglers but hands down, B&M is my favorite.
Probing brush for crappie is my game!

For Academy B&M hands down, Mr. Crappie rod are stiff and heavy they do have backbone if you hook into a ditch pickle but just not sensitive.IMHO
