It's been a while since I have even looked at this site. I have been dealing with a nasty divorce the last year and knew it was gonna be a while before I could afford a trip out for some saltwater fishing. Not getting out was bad enough and I figured reading about trips I couldn't go on would just be pouring salt in my wounds. My wallet and bank account are still drained but my kids are back in school in less than a month without seeing the coast once this summer. It's my fatherly duty to make sure it doesn't stay that way! I have my two young boys the week of August 10-16 and I'm trying to get a plan together for an overnight trip. I've got the gear and the know-how, I'm just looking to see if anyone knows of and can recommend a place with air conditioning and a bed for the night that charges less than then the tourist rape rates that you find online this time of year. If it was just me I normally just sleep in my truck but I want something a little better for my boys. We're coming from San Marcos and I'm pretty familiar with PA and Corpus so those areas would be easiest for us to fish. But I am open to anywhere with a couple spots a 7 & 9 year old can keep a rod bent and room for less than $80 a night. Any ideas?

Also has anyone rented one of the Carolina skiffs at Mike's Boat Rental? $120 doesn't seem too bad for a full day. I'm not sure I can add $120 to the trip but if it ends up within budget any opinions on if it would be worth it?

Many years ago we would stay at the Surfside in Rockport. Has a dock on little bay and I think it still has a pool. Boat rentals within walking distance. Kayak rentals nearby as well.

Don't know what an RV would rent for, but Goose Island State Park would have good fishing from the pier, as well as wading the reefs, and might be a less expensive alternative. Stay on the waterfront sites this time of the year; the mosquitoes will carry you off in the woods.
