Looking to retire soon and in the search of looking for a home or property that has private lake access for a boat and bass fishing. I found Hilltop lakes and hope get out there soon to do some surveying. Any research information in Texas would be appreciated. Thanks

Depending on what you have to spend can't go wrong with lake Cherokee. I have a buddy that has a lake house on lake Cherokee and it is awesome. Great fishing if you have kids or grand kids it is the best of both worlds. They have a island out on the lake that is set up great for kids and grandkids beach volleyball roped off swimming area playground. They have there own private police that monitor the lake and they are all cool. Everyone is super nice. They hold events out at the island for families every holiday. It would get my vote. Not to far of a drive it's near Longview

And it has plenty of trees to get away from the pleasure boaters the other cool thing that I like is that the boat lanes are marked and lighted for night fishing throughout the hole lake

Check out Gunstream Hunting and Fishing club in East Texas. May be a little pricey, but you will catch some nice fish and live in an exclusive area. I think they allow full time residents. Not sure about it.
LET’S GO BRANDON!!!

Delbert, we ended up buying a lake front property on Lake Athens and will start building within a few months.
But, before we settled on Lake Athens, we had found a property on Callendar Lake, a gated community sort of in the middle of Canton/Tyler/Athens triangle. It had poor to no internet connection and I have to have a connection for some business-related matters. But, I wanted to mention that it has a few lake front lots still available, not too high, and lots of off the water lots that they almost give away. The private boat ramp is nice and handy if one is off the lake. The lake is spring fed, constant level, fishing is above average. God, it is lovely out there, too.
Then, others would be Echo Lake just above Athens with a few lots for sale, all but one on the water, and a cool little lake community as best I can tell.
Ha! I wanted to buy the island on Lake Kiowa north of the Metroplex and the realtor failed to call me when it was ultimately sold at auction. I wouldn't have bid as high as it was sold for so no problem for me. But, if you want to live up there, that is a nice lake, too, as the other poster mentioned.
It depends a lot where in Texas you want to be. We wanted to sort of split the distance between D/FW and Houston. Grandkids, etc.
A realtor can help you find lots or existing homes with a quick search.

You can't beat East. I been at Callender Lake for 17 years. Check out the web site: www.callenderlake.org. Internet connection is not the best but it is about as good as it gets around these parts. I do use an antenna booster for AT&T cell service. Boss don't read this, sometimes it's nice to be out of touch with the city.

We have owned property in Hill Top Lakes for 15yrs the fishing is great until mid July but like all lakes certain months are better. I like the golf course nice set up and cheap and the restaurant has pretty good food. If you have a plane you can fly in and out no problem. There is also a ton of deer in Hill Top so if you are a hunter you can sign up to hunt but if not a hunter you can just look at all the wildlife. The only thing I don't like is all the rules on the lakes. You will just have to get all that from them when you go visit.
