Got a local pond that is now infested with drum from the floods. Was thinking it might be fun to get rid of them by turning them into bait. What's the general consensus of using drum as bait?

So I guess I should catch the carp that made it into the pond instead?

Drum has always produced for me. Esp on Twok for some reason. My buddy John caught a 64 on a Drum filet there back in January.

Shad, perch, smallmouth buffalo, carp, then drum would be my preference or close to that order anyway.
Anybody had luck on rigging drum live for flats?

I fished with a guy on Pat Mayse years ago that baited trotlines with cut drum. It worked great. We caught a lot of really nice blues on it........

I've done well on drum, not my first or second choice but if I catch one then I will use it.

Better white bass bait than for catfish... cut 1/4 x 2-3" strip, hook the "head" let strip hang down and flutter a foot off bottom... I prefer drum strip over shad when hit wb school, I can catch multiple wb with one strip of drum.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

Now I've got a use for them.

Carp is great bait! There are times of year I'd rather have carp then gizzard shad. I'd throw that drum out on a couple hooks also . Never know for certain what the blues will be hungry for and think it's good to throw a variety of baits at them when you can .

Carp is way better than drum imo. But drum is better than other stuff like chicken breastfeeding or frozen threadfin
