Hey guys, does anybody ever freeze leftover shad. I like to throw a cast net for shad and when I'm lucky enough to get a good bunch, I might have some left over after I run my jugs. I know they die pretty quick after I catch them but feel bad about wasting the left over shad. Can i freeze the left over shad and is it still as effective as fresh. I cut them up anyway. Any advice is appreciated. Have a good one.

Yeah the threadfins are worthless for bait after they are frozen, BUT... instead of throwing them away the day you catch them, you could freeze them and throw them out for chum before your next trip.

It sucks but don't waste you're time. 48 hours on ice, tops. You can do it, but fresh shad will out fish frozen 20/1. IMO. You can freeze Buffalo or Drum though. The filets.

Glove is right. I would just make it a point to keep less when you are catching them. Or - They make great garden fertilizer...

I freeze 3-5" shad all the time. I dump them out on my garage floor for a little while and let them dry out 2-3 hours...they stay pretty good after freezing for me.

What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!
