Blues your post made me smile! When I was a kid over 40yrs ago we did same thing (myself and my 3 cousins)...our fish were about that same size ,caught with Catawba worms,grasshoppers on end of homemade willow branch cane poles with hooks we raided from my uncles tackle box!

Great job "Blues" taking the kiddos out fishing! As already been said it is great seeing dads and their kids doing things together. We need more of that! Again awesome post and thanks for sharing.

Any tips on technic for bigger fish? Bottom rig out deeper? Larger or different rigged bait?

I usually find the bigger fish on the bottom! I cast a little further out and do a slower retrieve. I use mainly small spinner baits. I do fish with friends who use live bait such as worms who cast a little further out away from the small fish and they let the bait sit on the bottom with a very slow retrieve. If you are fising creeks try to fish by brush piles and tree overhangs.
