I have the GPS-1 antenna, HDS-12 that is connected to the Xi5 through the NEMA 2000 and gateway. It works flawlessly. I had a ton of problems getting it set up at first because the Xi5 was not communicating but worked great with the remote so MG kept telling me that it was not the TM while Lowrance kept saying it was not the HDS. I just sent the TM back and got it replaced and it started working perfectly. I like being able to control the trolling motor (turn, spot lock, etc) right from the HDS screen. I also like being able to save 8 (that's right 8) spot locks or trails. I like being able to see a brushpile 30 feet off to my right and just touch it on the screen. A box pops up and asks me if I want to make it a waypoint, or navigate to crosshair. If I say navigate to crosshair, it asks, "Engage Autopilot", I say yes and off we go. Since the HDS is using the GPS-1 for coordinates which is very accurate, it transmits those coordinates to the Xi5 and the Xi5 gets me as close as I can put my finger on the HDS. I really really like having the complete system working together. Might not be for everyone, but it is sure right for me. Blue Nitro, how do you like that wireless foot control. I think it is great to control the boat from the back while I let my wife or grandkids fish the front. I had the Terrova and a Riptide, both with I-pilot and they are absolutely great TMs but I like this Xi5 way better. JMHO Is the GPS-1 antenna a separate antenna that you have connected to your HDS-12? If so, where is it mounted?

Yes, it is a separate puck style antenna that is purchased separately. David (Shut-up and fish), can help you with that. It provides both heading and location all the time. I believe that it utilizes two gps signals to get the accuracy that it does, but not going to lie, I'm not sure. I just know that it updates very quickly and is very accurate. It connects to the HDS-12 through the NEMA 2000 backbone. If you don't have the NEMA 2000 kit, you would need to get a starter kit (like $55 or something like that) I have a Triton TR-186 and I mounted mine on the back on the same side as the sidescan transducer. You have to be careful not to get it too close to anything that could cause electrical interference. I have not had any problems with mine so far. You do have to calibrate it one time on the water though. Not a big deal. One of the biggest benefits is actually seeing how your boat is oriented in regards to a target/waypoint because it always shows boat heading (HDS projects a line straight ahead on the graph). So you can look at the HDS (even in wind) and if the rear of the boat swings around, you can still see the angle to the target even when the boat is not moving forward. Without it, the boat heading just drifts all over the place when you are not moving. Hope this answered what you were asking.

So on your system, the GPS that is actually being used for positioning is the GPS-1 puck which you have located on the back of your boat, correct? When you set your waypoint, does it park the back of the boat over the brushpile? When I connect the Xi5 to the Lowrance, I want the trolling motor GPS to be the GPS used for positioning so I can pull within a couple of feet from the bp so I can fish from the front. Can I select the GPS in the Xi5 to be the GPS that is being used for positioning and control purposes?

When you tell the Xi5 to go to the waypoint that was saved using the GPS-1, the HDS sends those GPS coordinates to the Xi5 so now the Xi5 will try and go to those coordinates using its built in GPS system, not the GPS-1. Only the HDS is actually using the GPS-1 antenna. That is my understanding and I have not had any issues that I can pinpoint that reflects anything else.

I have the xi5, 36v 105 lbs thrust and love it. I decided on the motorguide because it is compatible with lowrance hds units. Love the spotlock function, it has plenty of power for my 22' center console and batteries last a good week of fishing between charges.

I've got an 80LB thrust on my 20' Nautic Star CC, plenty of juice, and I can fish 3-4 days on a charge, and not feel any drain. Motor is quiet and holds great in wind and current. Linked to my hds 8 and 5 I've put 150+ crappie in the boat in the last week thanks to it

I have a friend who is a guide at Rockport. He has two boats and uses the I-Pilot on both boats. He said he has two TM per boat account they need repair often and it takes a long time to have them repaired. Do ya'll have that much trouble or is it because at the coast it is a lot rougher water and they take more of a beating. Also, I had one of the first MG with electronic steering ( can not remember the year, but a long time ago) and it only lasted about six months. When I took it in for repair, the tech said I should change over to cable account the elec board was taking a beating and would always give me problems, also because it was still under warranty it was free. I am still using that TM with cable foot control, but was thinking about getting the I Pilot when my guide friend told me about his issues. Also have a friend who said to look at all the pro boats in tournaments and that they mostly use cable. How are the Xi5 holding up, not sure how long they have been out, but has anyone had one for a couple of years. Damn they look tempting.
