A smaller size frog can be really good on a pond. Consider something like a Booyah Pad Crasher Jr. (smaller size, 1/4 oz. frog). Bend the hooks up and slightly out. I've been throwing a pad crusher jr in a few ponds over the last few weeks - it's been the best frog fishing of my life. I've been catching 10-20 fish every trip, granted most are 1lbers but I still snag the occasional 5 or 6lber. That frog in a yellow color has been absolutely killer for me.

I read this thread this morning and then went to and bought 2 frogs. A Top Toad and some other realistic one. I went to Soil conservation site 2 and fished until just after dark, and...
nothing.
Not a damn thing. Im so disappointed. BTW I had Bass Pro Shops string my reel today with their brand of mono, and the knot failed on me 3 times. Once on a fish, (Seiko). Once while testing the knot, and lastly as I was casting the top toad. It flew straight up in the air luckily and landed at my feet.
Im going back to trilene.

Holy cow. What pound test line did they string on there? And what knot are you tying? That's crazy bad. . .

. . .and about the disappointment. . .frogs will do that to you. My experience is the frog bite is usually all or nothing. When you catch the right day at the right time, it'll change your mind. It took me years to gain any confidence in a frog, but now I love them.

Too stiff of a rod can result in missed fish as well. I went from using a heavy action rod to a 7'3" MH and it has made a world of difference! Just my .02$

I think its called a double improved clinch knot but we always called it the Trilene knot. EDIT: Im wrong, its a trilene knot. Dbl Improved Clinch knot is completely different

You can get stinger hooks for frogs.
