A good safe ramp, I will be bowfishing at hight from sundown to 2 or 3 am concerned about break ins. If I were you, I would not broadcast my "illegal activity" on an open forum like this. Bowfishing on Lake Ray Hubbard or any lake in or owned by the city of Dallas is not legal. You can not discharge a firearm or bow, it is a city ordinance.

Chandlers or Harbor Bay are the safest That's good to know. What time do you have to be off the lake at the marinas?

Nellie I did not know that. I don't bow fish but I would have thought it would be legal.

Not sure that's true. Bow fishing for game fish is illegal but shooting non game fish is. There are guides that advertise bow fishing trips. Dallas may own Hubbard but the state regulates the fishery

Guys, think what you want but I have been down this road before and can tell you it is not legal. Yes there used to be guides on the lake that did it but not legally anymore, they were told to stop by Dallas. You may not get caught unless someone calls you in but it is not legal. I do not agree but did my own research after getting "escorted" off the lake myself by DPD.

Not sure that's true. Bow fishing for game fish is illegal but shooting non game fish is. There are guides that advertise bow fishing trips. Dallas may own Hubbard but the state regulates the fishery So Duck hunting is legal too, using that theory I guess I can got to Ray Hubbard or Waterview golf course and kill a limit of Ducks too? The issue is not the fish it is that a weapon can not be discharged in Dallas.

So is it illegal to go to an archery range in Dallas and shoot your bow at a target? Is it illegal to shoot your bow at a target in your own yard or in your shop or garage? Maybe someone can provide some documentation on the "bow fishing" hubbard debate. I don't see how it could be illegal.
Forgive my ignorance. But how is the city of Dallas involved with enforcing laws on Hubbard? Are you sure it isn't Dallas County? The City of Dallas doesn't' even border the lake does it?

I love it when people argue whether something is legal or illegal based on logical arguments or common sense. Since when were most our laws logical? 90% of them have no reasonable basis or justification, so it's a waste of time to try and figure it out. Save yourself the trouble, call the appropriate law enforcement entity and find out what the law actually is - not whether it makes sense or not.

Im not arguing. I'm asking. This is all news to me.
But you are right, common sense doesn't seem to be considered in law making and ordinance making.
I hope someone can shed some light on this. I would like to see the ordinance and how it reads. Discharging a bow in the city limits being illegal surely is hearsay.
I have a buddy that has been bowfishing it for years. I just talked to him. Long story short he says it is not illegal to bow fish hubbard during the day. He said he read "somewhere" the use of artificial lights isn't allowed. But bowfishing in daylight hours is legal.
