I'd rather never see it. Then I can just try to convince myself it was a carp or catfish and move on. I've been doing that for 3 months about a fish I lost at benbrook. Thought I hooked a tuna but I swear it was a catfish. Or maybe a huge drum?

I always laugh when people lose one they didn't see and try to tell you what it weighed.
Last year, I sight casted one that I would say was in the neighborhood of 12-14lbs only to have it throw my frog right back at me. I still think about that one. I caught a giant a few weeks before that so it didn't sting as bad as it could.

I've had a couple bigguns break me off that I wonder how big they were. This problem seemed to stop when i took off all the fluorocarbon and put big game back on everything.

Lost one deep cranking last year that jumped several times and made 2 passes by the boat. Was using 10lb line so I was trying to play her out before I got her to the boat. Was the biggest bass I have ever seen in person, dwarfed the 2 nines I caught weeks before. As soon as I leaned down to lip her she made one more run and my crankbait floated back to the surface. I laid down on the deck and about cried said a few choice words. I would estimate that fish in the 12lb range and I still see the giant eyes in my nightmares from time to time. I have fished that same spot probably 50 times since then hoping to meet up with that fish again.

Better to not see them for sure. I lost one about 7-8 at the boat a couple months ago that still bothers me, and I've caught a number of 6-9 pound fish. I've never had a DD though. If I saw one and didn't get her in, I might just have to give up fishing altogether.

Thought I hooked a tuna but I swear it was a catfish. Or maybe a huge drum? I've had one fish like that and it was @ Pat Mayse. I was throwing a finesse worm in the back of a cove and I pitched it up next to a stump as soon as it hit the water it took off sideways so I set the hook. What ever it was looked like it was as big as my leg and much bigger than a large mouth as it boiled just under the surface like a torpedo. I figure it was a really big gar or catfish. The lure came loose after a few of seconds and almost hit me.........
