Don't know if this is a transmission or engine problem. When you slightly step on the gas my truck starts to stutter. It happens when you go from a stop or when you are on the road and let go of the gas and slowly step on it again. It feels as if the truck missfiring for that moment only or if the tranny slips a little. Any advice pinpointing it will help. Thanks

Possibly a miss fire.. Have you ever had a Tune-up.. A bad coil could be the problem also, determining which coil would require special tools..
Also is the Service engine light on.. if so, have Autozone check it, they do it for free.. just don't buy anything the say.. If you would, post the codes here..

Do you have any lights on? Sevice Engine Soon light? Or the OD lite on the gear shift flashing? Things like this are hard to trouble shoot over the phone or the web. My boss knows several people down in San Antonio if you want a recommendation for a shop give us a call 512-353-5186 Bob Jett.

More than likely what you are feeling is a misfire. Your truck is nearing 100k which is the recommended service interval for spark plugs. It sounds as if you are dropping a cylinder(misfiring) due to a faulty coil. The coils are individual per cylinder(c.o.p-coil on plug). Best bet would be to bring it to a dealership and have them pinpoint which cylinder is misfiring using the Ford Diagnostics tool, or you could wait for the check engine light to come on and then run to Autozone and have them pull the codes to see which cylinder is failing. I would recommend taking it to the Ford house asap. When a vehicle misfires, unburned fuel is pushed through the exhaust. Unburned fuel will cause the catalytic converters to eventually fall apart internally or become plugged. Best bet, drop the dime and take it to a reputable shop.
Best of luck, Wes Srianekkul Ford CNG,LPG,Gasoline,Diesel Certified Technician P.S. Go ahead and spring for the tuneup and only use motorcraft parts

Sheldon, make sure you use the Motorcraft plugs. You should be able to get them from O'Reilly's

if it is still misfiring than as suggested earlier you will need to replace the coil packs on those cylinders to repair the problem.good luck.

Misfires on #2, #3. I changed out the plugs. How did you get that info? Did you get Autozone or similar to hook up a code reader? Thanks.

Sheldon, more than likely he went to autozone. Just because someone like autozone can retrieve the codes doesn't mean they can interperet them, they are two completely different things. Ex. P0171,P0174 lean bank 1$2 codes, autozone will try and sell you o2 sensors when 9 out of 10 times it won't fix your problem. Generic obd2 scanners are limited to their abilities. Manufacturer specific scan tools offer greater levels of diagnostic abilities. If you are having issues with your ford shoot me an email off line and I will be glad to help.

Sheldon, I recommend advanceauto parts. They had a good reader and they printed out the codes for me.

I had a similar problem on my 1999 F-150, but it was my Idle Air Control was gunked up with carbon. Took it off and cleaned it, ran fine. I'm ready for another tune up though, 121,000 miles and counting.

I have a 01 f-150 done the same thing and a coil went out. THe guy told me if your check engine light flashes ( 10 times) then stays on soild its a misfire problem. F-150 are famous for coil packs going out.I have replaced one and was told eventually I would end up replaceing all of them.
If I'm towing and have around a 1/4 tank of gas left mine starts jerking a little. Stop and fill up and no problem.
