 Three-toed amphiuma ( basically a huge salamander ) Click on pic above to start the video. I have been fishing Hubbard and Lavon for a very long time and I've never seen these. My buddy Cody sent me this. He said there were thousands of them swimming all around below 78 in the river. The one in his fish tank is 18 inches long. I seen these before at ceder creek lake i coght one in my trap at that time didnt know what it was i called tpaw

That's a water dog. They're in most of our rivers and lakes and lots of them.

It's not a waterdog. It's a three toed salamander or three toed Amphiuma. Water dogs get about 8-13 inches on average. These r huge. Read the link.

Water dogs turn into an actual air breathing salamander , 3 toed salamanders are basically eels of sort, they stay in water, verses a water dog who stays in water than loses his gills and swim tail and becomes a land salamander like what a tad pole of frog does, water dogs are basically baby land salamanders

Here's another article by University of Mich. If I read the article correctly,fish do not eat'em.Only a few snakes consider them dinner. Plus they bite,oh well that's why a carry a Machete on my boat. They bite too

Guess I've been mistakenly calling them waterdogs, but that's the same thing I've seen along the Trinty all my life. My daughter caught one recently. I'll see if I can get some pics.

If I read the article correctly,fish do not eat'em. I read it and yes, it doesn't indicate fish as a main predator, but you put one of those things in front of a hungry bass or catfish and it is going to take a bite.
