Ever since I purchased my Kayak last year I have been experiencing back pain. I had an upgraded high back seat but it just wasn't enough to help. There are so many good fishing spots I can't get to from the bank or even wade fish so I had to find a solution. I searched the web an found some ideas on mounting boat seats on kayaks. I built a frame that slides down into a pair of the scupper holes and mounted the seat. Problem solved!!!!!! I fished for 2 hours with no pain. Sitting up higher made the entire fishing experience far greater as well. I fished in one of the golf course ponds yesterday evening. I was able to get to the 2 best spots on the pond for the first time in over a year. One spot is under a tree next to where water feeds into the pond. This spot holds big red ear. The other spot is under a huge willow tree. This is where the trophy greenies have carved out their niche. I caught about 15 to 20 nice fish on the fly rod. It was great to enjoy kayak fishing again.

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought it was my Aggie Engineering degree but my friend said it was redneck engineering, LOL.
Now I'm excited about yaking again. Next steps are to add some DIY flyrod holders and an anchor reel. I've got a lot of good ideas off the internet.

Nice job! You really need to post that over in the kayak section under "rigging" as well. PVC is the kayakers best friend!

What's nice about that setup is you can add a much nicer plush seat maybe with armrests if you really want to upgrade.

Jamie, Anytime you want to hook up and pitch flies out of the kayaks, give me a yell. I have to rehone my fly throwing anyway.

Jamie, Anytime you want to hook up and pitch flies out of the kayaks, give me a yell. I have to rehone my fly throwing anyway. Sounds like a plan. It's been raining since the last time we tried to plan an outing.
