Took my wife and parents out yesterday and today. Today was better. Bait shop was out of perch last night so we went to the lake looking for shad and having a back up plan of snagging some perch. Got to the ramp around 6:30 shad were making the surface nervous all over, but they were all 1-1.5". Went forward with plan B and snagged some bluegills and greenies. They proved to be the ticket as we caught Striper on the perch ranging from 2" to 4", but not so well on the larger ones. Caught about 10 between the four of us including our largest on the lake to this point a 5.5 and 6lber. Finished up about 11:00. Nice to finally have some striper success! Below is the 6lber and a 23" fish I didn't weigh. Here the 5.5lber.

Thanks for the report. We were going to go out there Sun morn, but had a bad battery on my trolling motor so we just fished below the dam.
We were there on Thurs and also did well on small perch. Like you said, the 2 inch perch seem to be the best. This was my first trip in the last 6 that I could not locate any shad. We only caught 5 or 6 decent size shad.

No problem. Using perch has been a big boost in my ability to catch striper. Pretty sure it was a post of yours that convinced me to do so, thanks! Catching shad to this point of my fishing career has been a big challenge. And let's face it, perch stay alive longer on the hook and in the bait well.

Below the dam died out once they cut the water flow. I even went very early and it's just not what it was. The lake will be better now than the river.

We only caught 5 or 6 decent size shad. We had a decent trip at the river. This was my third trip below the dam in the last week or so. You can still catch quite a few fish, but they are mostly on the small size. Lots of small sandies and under stripers. The biggest we caught would probably go 5 pounds and we caught a few in the 3 pound range. The fish down there are fat. They are eating good. It is a good place to fish, especially if you dont have a boat. I dont know of any other spot at PK that you could catch striper from shore like you can below the dam. Also, a great spot to fly fish. On 2 of my trips we saw fly fishermen and they seemed to be doing well. If you are after big striper, then you probably need to wait until the next major release of water or else fish south of the bridge in a yak or something. Here is a pretty nice report posted in the yak section. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt..._6-29-15#UNREAD
