Spin cast would be like a closed faced Zebco reel; I think ya'll mean spinning reels correct?
But, almost all of the professional bass guys use spinning tackle and I think the main reason, since most are big fans of bait casters, is they want very light line and small baits and typically speak of throwing 6 and 8 lbs. test.
I think in deeper water and certainly for vertical drop shots, it wouldn't make any difference which way one goes.
The roboworm? I think most of mine are Aaron's Magic color which is a sort of solid mud brown bottom and a translucent purple top side that light passes through throwing off some great colors. With its slim profile, it really fits well on a 2,1, 1/0 or 2/0 hooks. A roboworm might be a little skinny for a traditional Texas Rig.

I personally use drop shot in just about any depth more than 6ft. Just depends on what type of water you are fishing. Many guys fish beds with drop shot in 2ft!!!
I also don't like to use a spin cast reel. I prefer baitcaster. Typically use 8lb braid and 6lb flouro leader. With 6in worms I like a 1/0 hook and hooked like a T-rig....with the 4" worms I nose hook it and use a drop shot owner hook. Favorite worms are Robo Worms in Aaron's Magic and Zoom trick worm in tomato and green pumpkin. More bites come when you are doing absolutely NOTHING but sitting there....stay patient and good luck.
yes yes yes! On the do nothing part. 90%+ of my bites come either within a few seconds of the bait reaching the zone, or soon after. If I don't get a bite quick, I might slowly lift and resettle the bait. I very rarely twitch it a lot. If the wind is blowing, the works wiggling plenty. If it's dead calm, maybe a very faint shake. And when I mean shake, I mean more like gripping tightly, then loosely the rod grip. It's enough to cause a robo to pulsate.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

WHat size weight are you using? I would think in 20' plus water it must be pretty heavy. Just learning this method. Thanks

Thanks not really, unless it is windy. drop shot weights and worms have very little resistance to the water so you can use very light weights typically. under 1/4oz on a lake with stained water you can get away with using heavier weights though

I would consider myself pretty talented with the drop shot... I learned from the best in the west years ago growing up in San Diego. Much like a lot of you guys, I don't use a spinning reel, I just don't feel comfortable using one. My thoughts on this are this... Go to a lake and take this as the only rod/reel that day and use it until you are comfortable using it. This is what I use while drop shotting... 10 pound Flourocarbon Size 1 hook Two sized weights either 3/16 or 1/8 7' medium action rod Worms - only two brands I have used Roboworm and ZZ lures both are equally good. I use both 4.5" and 6" just depends on the situation. I mostly nose hook the worm not exposing the hook or wacky rig it.
