Solid 9'er last Sunday from the bank on a Ned rig. Ounces, that is... This 10,000 acre impoundment is too gorgeous to not be chock full of bass. There were lots of these guys hanging around the water near our campsite.

Gators ate them all. Ha. I love Cyprus tree lakes. Like you say, they got to be there somewhere.

I used to live in Nacogdoches and I never knew of anyone who went bass fishing there. I've never been on Dam B myself. I wouldn't mind trying it, but never got past going to other lakes when I had the time.

I would have given anything for a kayak to do some exploring. I'd be afraid of taking anything in there with a lower unit, although I did see a number of old jon boats with small tiller drives.

I've spent lots of time in that area, the only place I've ever done any good was in the Lilly pads close to where the river dumps in. You'd be much better off launching at bevilport or crystal river and fishing the Angelina. I've caught lots of fish from the river, up to 8 pounds.

Sorry, my joke wasn't clear. I should have said "solid niner" (as in pounds, not feet), after which I followed with "ounces, that is..."

I grew in on the forks of the Neches and Angelina rivers. Have caught thousands of bass in the lake and the oxbows above. The Angelina river is loaded with Kentucky spots. I still own a camp about a mile up the Neches from the forks of the two rivers. Although I rarely fish there anymore, it's still some of the most scenic waters I've ever fished. #1 rule, if you're fishing the area especially during the warmer months beware of the wasps in the cypress trees!!!! I've abandoned ship more than once in the past 40+ years of fishing the area.

I agree, it's a beautiful lake. I think I'll drag the boat out there one weekend and give her a go.

It was drained down to the channel a number of years ago, I have often wondered if the population has caught back up yet since refilling.
Used to be full of hydrilla caught some decent fish many years ago

That is some beautiful water.
I've driven over it a few times and thought am I missing something here?

I love fishing there. It has a lot of small fish with an occasional good fish. You need to check the conditions before you go up there such as discharge times because you can get trapped when they close the gates.

It's been drained into the river many, many times over the years. It's one of my favorite times to fish it. Launch at Bevil Port on the Angelina and run down to the lake. They'll be ganged up in river bends and where sloughs enter the river, also Spring creek will always have water and I've caught some big sacks in there during low water. The only problem is the local meat fishermen take advantage of those times. The corps drains it occasionally to try and control hydrilla and water hyacinths. It's definitely a numbers lake, had several days with 100+ fish but never caught a fish over 5-6 pounds.
