I'm trying to assemble my own design of flagging jugs, but I can't seem to find Swimming Pool noodles made of white foam. I'm thinking that I might end up painting the different colors of the ones I can grab at WalMart using white paint. It might make it easier to write on them anyway..
Anyone have an inexpensive source of white swimming pool noodles?

Use any color pool noodle. Just wrap them with white duct tape you get at WalMart. It works just fine.
Put all your info on a small card. Laminate the card and punch a small hole through the laminate and then ziptie it to the top of your jug. Write the date on the laminate with a wax pencil. It will stay until you wipe it off with a rag and is then ready to go the next time.

Picture of my Tags, have them made with my name and address Write the date on the back (White) side with marking pen. Also use 2 1oz egg sinkers for weight in the PVC. BTW: Have moved and changed address.

For the white foam go to a construction place that sell foam packing for caulking large cracks. They use it for a filler. I just write my name and address on the pvc and place the date on it. I mark through it when it get down to 30 days and place another. When it gets filled I use paint thinner and wipe the dates off and start again.
I like Hookers idea also and it would be quicker to get fishing.

Hooker,
What size snap swivels are you using in the picture if you don't mind me asking? First set of jugs I made I bent the hook eye enough to slip in a barrel swivel then bent it back. Time consuming and broke several hooks that way. If you have good success with a snap swivel, would like to try that as it is easier and some of the hooks are getting bent up. Any info. would be appreciated.
Thanks,

The white foam is called backer rod you can find it at construction suppliers if not they would know where. I paid $8.oo for I think a 5 foot stick.Maybe 4?And I just used a drill with a 3/4 inch wood blade and drilled both ends for the hole in middle if not you can use a piece of pvc with the end of it jagged.I love mine. They are really lot of fun.good luck!

something like this is what we used to use in salt water for shark and king fish. It would work good for jugs. They are stronger than a regular snap swivel.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

Something I have started doing and I have found it useful is to use a small bungee cord( I think they are ten inches) tie a knot in them in ( to make them a little shorter). Then, take your railroad spike or whatever weight you use, place it in the middle of your flagging jug and wrap the bungee cord around the weight and jug. This will keep the weight tight against the jug while you transport it and not allow it to hang up on every thing in your boat. When you put the jug out, remove the small bungee cord and place them out of the way. This way, you will also know exactly how many jugs you have placed out by counting the bungee cords. As you pick your jugs up, repeat the process of securing the weight to the jug.

I use to keep mine in a milk crate and it would hold about 15 jugs. I had the weight attached and sitting on top of the jug. Now I am using a plastic box that holds 30 without a problem. I can take them in and out of the boat when needed. Keeps the area clean and neat without tripping over anything or getting hung up.

Dartman, that is the way I used to keep mine. However, whenever the lake was not smooth, my weights would bounce off and become hung-up in the bottom of the milk crate. I then tried taping the weight to the jug, but that was a real pain.

I keep mine in a chaep plastic walmart bag. that when they are all set out I don't have the crates in the way. I use a small snap swivel to connect the weight and the main line. i keep this conecction the wekaest link incase it gets hung up i can tug on it and release the weight without breaking anything important.

Divingcat I use heavy rubberbands or you can use little velcro straps to keep lines and tackle from coming off and getting tangled

we use 1 liter bottles and put duck tape oround the top and the middle. put enought wraps of tape on to simple slide the hook under to hold securely. go to academy sports store and pay $9 for a duck decoy bag, have 60 jugs in one and could probably get 40 more in there. they are coated so the bottles do not hang up, also has a very nice strap to carry by
