Fairfield is a great little lake that has redfish in it. It is located outside of the town of Fairfield, about 2 1/2 hours N on I-45

Can't you wade for them down on the coast? You might try the saltwater board. I'm pretty sure the water in some of the bays is only 3-4 foot deep in most parts. I don't know enough about redfish to tell you whether that's a seasonal pattern or a year round thing.

Get on I-10 west and head for San Antonio. Get off onto 1518 south at Exit 591 and follow it to C W Anderson Loop south and it will run right into Calaveras Lake with a very good population of freshwater redfish and some big ones, too.

Wading for Redfish is one of the most effective ways you can catch Redfish. I fish Corpus Christi allot and have caught some decent ones including a 30" Red last October. I have been to Galveston and Port Arthur and they both have flats where someone could wade fish for them there.
I like to wade near the Intercoastal. That always seems to hold fih in it.
If not then Braunig lake and Calaveras lake both near San Antonio have Redfish in them. They are right off of I-35. Used to pass by them on the way to Corpus.

Just a quick question,
I have done a fair amount of bay fishing but I have never fished for reds in a lake. Do the same tactics work in the lake? I have heard that spoons and cut bait are the way to go but can you use the same kind of plastics that you would use at the coast?

redfinn is right... braunig/cala are the best in the world for reds.... now if only they can get jiggy in those lakes and make more reds without stocking programs...

Whitebassguyjc -
We usually troll DD-14's and DD-22's on Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir east of Waco (go to Whites-Hybrids-Stripers section and see recent thread on "Redfish in May" and get some more info there). I also brought up the previous thread in that section "Tradinghouse...Can't Get Any Better" for you to read. It also has pictures of fish we caught and lures we used.
About 3 mph is good. Troll the DD-14's in the 12-15 foot range and the DD-22's in the deeper water when they school and suspend at 18-20 feet over 35-40 foot of water. Make sure in the shallower water that the lures (DD-14's) contact the bottom every now and then. You can adjust how deep they run just by raising or lowering your rod tip while trolling.
Use striper fishing equipment with 17-20 lb. test mono.
