so i really dialed in on a Black and Blue Jig bite while night fishing right now. I Using Hack attack jigs by strike king. we are talking 10-20 fish a night. this is my first year using Big Jigs like this. I using 7'6 heavy action Rod and 25lb Copolymer. I feel the bite. reel in my slack. MAKE SURE i feel the Weight of the Fish on my Rod and Then I try and Break the Rod with the hook set. I Mean theres no way you can set the hook any harder. I fight the fish. reeling him in as fast as possible. not giving him a chance to fight. and try and swing him in the boat, only for the fish to Come off while swinging him in the boat. I even smacked The wife in the Face with a 3 pounder trying to swing a fish in the boat. I HAVE EVEN LET THE FISH RUN WITH THE JIG FOR 3-4 SECONDS BEFORE I DO THE WORLDS HARDEST HOOK-SET. Still half the time it will come off while trying to land the fish. i even tried Just LEANING IN TO THE FISH! still the same thing happens and sometimes when i do swing the fish in the boat the jig will pop out and leave the fish flopping all over my carpet. Have you checked to see if the hook is sharp?

You can try slightly bending the hook outward, I normally do this on jigs right out of the box. Out of a 20 fish night how many will come off like this? if its just a couple you can probably just chalk it up as bad hook placement and there isn't much you can really do about that

Sounds like maybe your over setting/over fighting the fish... A hook set should hold. If you rip a gaping hole in the fish's mouth, the hook can back out easily. You might try trimming off some of the brush guard brushes. Adapt to your fishing style and structure. They are not meant to be fished exactly as they are packaged. Lol. If you are just pitching docks or hopping it along cleanish bottoms, very little of the brush guard is needed. If you trim enough off, a hookset is really easy. But, even with a full guard, it just sounds like you are trying way too hard.

Also, if you are doing a MMA double gorilla swing hookset with a 7'4" heavy rod, that is a TON of hookset power. Way more than needed. A hookset just needs to be crisp and fast. You don't have to set the hook and yank the fish up from the bottom in one swing. Set the hook quick, then if the rod bends... It's a biggin.

Put the jig in the palm of your hand and close your hand if you can't feel the hook point you need to bend the hook out slightly until you feel the point. Also spread out the weed gaurd and lightly mash it down towards the hook shank.

And don't wait to set the hook on that bass jack his jaw as soon as you feel a bite.

Trim back the weed guard, a lot of times the weed guard will interfere with the hook for a good hooksets, if you're not fishing any grass or weeds, I'd just cut the weed guard off , you'll notice a difference

Might try switching to a Santone or an Oldham Jig. The MACK jigs are maybe the best I've ever used but cost a little more. I won't swing a bass into the boat that weighs over a couple pounds, I prefer to either lip them or net them. Good luck.

Something has to give, sounds like the fishes mouth is getting the worst of it. Think I've heard hackney say he doesn't jackhammer them and he designed the jig.

I agree with trimming the weed guard. I was missing fish on a jig until I learned that I needed to trim it.

I m gonna try trimming the weed Guard. I m fishing in some medium to thick grass any certain way I should Trim it? I can catch the same fish and a T-Rigged Brush Hog with a Trokar Flippin hook. i set the hook the same way. and the fish never come off.

Listen to skeeter man 225, he taught me. Imho, u can not over set the hook with a jig. I cross there eyes,lol!
