One of the things to remeber that the top bass lakes on the list arent all about just the fishing itself.
They rank amenities, local eateries, number of tournies etc in there too.
It's kind of odd, but think about it as a best vacation destination list.
Not best to go whack them list In the description about how the lakes are selected, they make no mention of amenities. I am pretty sure this is just based on fishing results. Not in that write up, but in the original article in BASS magazine for the first top 100 lakes there was.

Not in that write up, but in the original article in BASS magazine for the first top 100 lakes there was. According to Bassmaster, they changed their ranking process for this year. There is certainly still some personal bias in play, but they were only looking at fishing-related data to make final decisions.

U also can't judge the quality of a lake based on the fish your best local sticks catch. Probably should be judged on the average weekend anglers opportunity to catch both numbers and size of bass
This is the way I judge lakes, too. The fact that guys who spend 50-100 days on a lake each year have been able to locate enough humps, ledges, and brushpiles to weigh in good bags in tournaments doesn't necessarily mean the average recreational fisherman can go to the lake and have a good time catching fish. There are lakes I have gone to and had really good trips without knowing anything about them in advance. I didn't have to idle around for a day or two staring at electronics to find some fish. To me that is the definition of a fun lake.

I have a place on Toledo. WORST NEWS EVER!!! Lol Call me a grump, but in Texas the sport is big enough. Don't worry, you're not the only grump. I've sometimes thought the same thing, too. Is there a shortage of fishermen on the water these days? I haven't noticed it at the lakes I fish. It seems to me there are more boats on the lakes than ever.

Toledo Bend is a special place. I've been to quite a few other lakes, but nothing has ever come close. I was fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time there in the beginning years of the lake. I wish I was able to get back there more often.

Some lakes I have fishing like Kentucky, Guntersville, and Toho with limited time on those lake it was generally easy to find fish and even a few good ones. Toho is probably the toughest of the those listed to find them.

Just read the caption for Fayette County at number 62, " took 20-10 lbs to win a February tournament by a small Houston Bass Club", lmao BassMaster! An East Texas Lake produces a 46 lb stinger with a 13 lb kicker and is never mentioned since the inception of their top 100 lakes. Glad to see $$$$ well spent these days Jerry!

I don't really want my favorite lakes mentioned in these nationally published lists. The "bragging rights" wouldn't be worth the added pressure they would receive, especially in the case of the fairly small lakes.

They left a bunch of lakes off this list in north Louisiana, south Arkansas, and east Texas I have fished that felt could make this list. I'm just glad they did..........
