 broke a steering cable today..

I have a 97 stratus 201PE with a 225 johnson. I broke a steering cable today and the helm is also bad. What is the best option to replace them? Should I go hydraulic? What do you guys think?

hydraulic cost more..I updated mine to hydraulic, and along with a trolling motor pedal tray is the best upgrades you can do..I have never heard anyone, who went hydraulic ,say he was sorry he did...

Going to order the Sea Star Pro hydraulic kit in the morning from Pitstop marine. 860.00 shipped with hoses. Best price I could find..

Do I remove this threaded rod? One of the old steering cables went through this? Also on second picture do I use the spacers provided to fill the gap on both sides?

Yes and there should be a nut with an allen head locking plug that goes behind that arm with the large nut. http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/use...l_296784-AO.pdf

Was it hard to run the hoses and any tips Also did you do the tilt helm. I need to install one on my Cobra.

The job was pretty easy. Got a great deal on the kit with hoses for 889.00 shipped. Had it the day after I ordered. I used the 16 ft hoses on my 20 ft stratus.. No tilt helm.
