I would rather have gators than lake lice to deal with!

Choke Canyon is full of gators and there isn't a lake lice problem at all!

Just one more cast!

Hope you're kidding with this post, but if not, it makes absolutely no sense. Alligators are not a problem in Texas or anywhere else. If you want to hunt dangerous animals, go after drunks on the highway; they kill people, gators don't.

P.S.

Having alligators, mountain lions, bear, and all of these animals around just means the ecosystem and habitat are in darned good shape.

The whole gators won't mess with you statement is a myth. They will mess with you because of guarding young, mating season, curious, or just hungry and see you as an easy meal.
Had a few stalk me in FL and one big bull challenge us while in the Gheenoe.

That said I like seeing them around. Saw my first around '83 in Trinity River bottoms near downtown. The Texas gators do seem to hide more and be a lot more cautious than FL gators.

If you bother one or are foolish enough to jump in where one or a bunch are, they could hurt you, but just like rattlesnakes and other wild animals, they want to stay away from you as much as you should want to stay away from them. Check on the number of deaths caused by alligators or any other animal in the U.S. in a year, and then check on how many people have been killed by drunk drivers, and you will quickly see where the danger lies. With wild animals, you just have to be intelligent enough to give them space.

When you are out in your kayak or on the water, you may run into one or depending on where you are, some. The figures on humans being injured by them though is infinitesimal when compared to other ways of being hurt, i.e. falling in your bathroom.

Here is a site that lists the methods of being injured in the U.S. Compared to other types of injuries, being injured by animals rates very low: Common Causes of Death in the United States. For animal injuries, your annual odds of being hurt are in the millions, with lifetime odds being in the high thousands. Check the odds for others.
