I'm sure that this has been asked about a dozen times or more but I can't seem to find the answers with the search feature or the almighty google. So I thought I would ask here. I'm looking to get into some snapper and Kingfish and more or less anything else that will bite (spade/trigger whatever) at some of the offshore stuff. I took a trip recently and I've got to do more of that. The way I understand it is that to catch snapper you really have to be in at least 50' of water and that all the visible rigs off the northern gulf coast of texas are in roughly 30-40' of water. Does anyone know of any rigs that are still within Texas waters (9 miles out) that can reach this 50' depth marker. Or if any of my information is wrong please correct me and point me in the right direction. Thanks for all the help in advance.

On the northern coast yeah most are 30-40 ft. Down around Port A and south 50-60 ft. Most of those rigs in close get picked apart pretty hard though. Even out of Port A you have to run 20-40+ miles north or south to find decent catches of keeper snapper on state water rigs.

But I have caught red snapper numerous times around the jetties at Port A fishing for reds and such so it isn't out of the question to catch em shallower.

Kings are a different story. You can catch them all the way to the surf waters when they get to running. Spades will be abundant at the close rigs as well as sheepshead. Triggers should be there to but check the regs (I don't fish for them or keep em so I don't keep up with the rules on them).
