If I rebuild my carbs on a 1991 40hp Evenrude do I need to do a link and sink procedure, I have a manual but not sure if it is necessary to link and sink. I have had the boat for 3 years and the carbs were rebuilt who knows when!!!
Thanks

Tom H

Yes always linc &sync carbs after rebuilds, and be sure to check the bushings on the throttle linkage on the side of the motor were it hooks up,being a 1991 I would bet they are worn out are not even there,it effects wide open throttle and timeing advance.

Sometimes they go back together without requiring any adjustment but you do have to check it. Reason for that is, the spark has to advance before the throttle plates start to open, or else she'll just fall flat on her face when you put the hammer down.

Main thing on the link & sync is to make sure the cam follower roller hits the cam right on the mark (or between the marks if it has two). Adjust by loosening the screw on the follower bracket. Most Johnnyrudes are pretty sensitive, just a very slight adjustment can make all the difference.

Then make sure the throttle butterflies are completely open, but not past horizontal, at WOT.

You won't have to set the timing unless you pull the flywheel.
