as the title says.... I am making a few jug lines for the first time. What size circle hook and 1 or 2? How long of a leader? How far down to the first hook and if 2, how far between hooks?

you will get many answers for this I bet, we use a 5-0 and 8-0 hooks, depending on what bait is, we use 1 or 2 hooks, depending on water depth, no more cause our jugs would be to small, most of the time one hook. easier to handle too. I think least 5 foot between hooks. we try to stay 3 to 5 foot off bottom, have fun and good luck.

If your making real jug lines, I use 4 or 5 - 8/0 hooks 5' or so apart. normally fish about 30' water with them. If your making the pool noodle thingy that floats around I go with 1 hook and pretty much any size you want to use. I have some rigged with treble hooks and run them with cheese bait.

I use one 8/0 Octopus hook on my Noodle jugs.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

I only use two or 3 circle hooks but I usually fish water less than 25 feet and I fish out of a kayak. I have used every type of jug and experimented with many types of materials. I have come up with what I think is a great jug. This is from an earlier post on how I make my jugs. PS I only fish about 5 to 8 jugs and place them around where I am fishing. My basic set up; a 10' piece of 3" lightweight PVC, the kind used for drainage. Two 3" caps per jug. The cheapest foam crack sealer you can find and a eye hook with a washer and a bolt. I can make about 8 jugs per 10' pipe. All I do is cut the pipe the length I want and glue a cap with a eye bolt through it to one end. Fill the pipe about 1/2 way with foam and let it set overnight. That will be the bottom. The next day glue the other end cap on and you are done. Attach the line to the eye hook at the desired depth and fish. I use two circle hooks per jug. I have found that small bungee cords are a good way to keep the line around the jug when not in use. I also like to use a medium "cable cuff" (found at Home Depot) on the bottom to wrap excess line around the cuff it through the eye hook. Be sure to get an eye hook that is big enough to put the cable cuff through. If you live near Lake Highlands in Dallas Gecko Hardware has really good lightweight American made PVC for a really good price. Lowes also has it, not every Home Depot carries the light weight PVC. Look by the sprinkler system stuff, it may not be by the heavier PVC. Cost PVC pipe $7 to $9 Caps $1.48 at Lowes Foam spray $4.98 at Home Depot you can do make 7-8 per can eye bolts, whatever you want to spend.

The noodle floats are what i had in mind but I'm making them out of 1gal listerine bottles. Was gonna use either a circle or octopus hook but wasn't sure what size and how long a leader. 1.5oz weight?

I use a minimum of 8oz. and up to 16oz. weight. 1gal Listerine bottles? I have never seen one of those. If they are clear you should paint them so you can find them but also so no one runs over them and messes up their boat. Need to respect others use of the lake. Enjoy experimenting with what works for you. The recipe I posted works great for me and will last for years. You will catch more with circle hooks. I honestly rarely have bait gone without a fish on. I mean like almost never.

I use about 30' of main line (I never fish any deeper than 20-30'), probably have about 2 pounds tied to the end (lead sheeting that also wraps around the noodle after rolled up so it stays put in storage) and use about 8" leaders off of the main line with 8/0 circle hooks (usually I put 4 on each jugline).

Where do you find lead sheeting? I use 60 to 80 pound leftover mono I have from filling my offshore reels. I like the clip idea.

I get it from lead lined sheetrock from x ray room remodels. Those stainless clips are awesome, make sure you use a swivel too.
