How do you properly bleed out fish you catch? Such as tuna before you place them on ice. Is there anything else you should do to protect the meat till you get back to shore?

We always stick tuna under the pectoral fin. Kinda like stabbing them in the arm pit. I�m not sure if it�s the �proper way� to do it but they sure do bleed.

When I bleed, I cut a line from behind the gill plate to right under the gill plate. This will bleed them quick. Make sure not to kill the fish before hand, the pumping heart will accelerate the bleeding process and he will die rapidly anyways. By making this incision, you are cutting the major artery and vein of the fish. I will see if I can find any pics on this..

Used to amberjack's tail off and hang them up but I was on a platform and had time to bleed them that way.

After making inscision, lay fish at an angle head down, this will help rid the fish of blood.

cut off tail and hang asap after catching. putting fish on ice is ok, but bleed em first
