The emergency spillway, which is like the one at Grapevine except that it is earthen, dumps out across the golf course. The regular gravity spillway drains through the golf course also.

There is no mechanical way as in a spillway that can be opened or closed that water can be released from lake Arlington. It's all gravity flow. When the lake reaches the morning glory spillway, it flows out. If more water comes into the lake than the 1st spillway can handle, the lake continues to fill until it overflows the emergency spillway at the golf course. I lived in Arlington over 45 years and have seen the water overflow the golf course spillway only 2 times.
