How do you guys think the high water levels at this particular time of the year affect the bass? Do the majority move up into the cover with the new water or head out deep (18'-25') like they normally would at full pool or a few feet below? This question is regarding toledo bend and Rayburn or lakes similar to the two.

I think in the east Texas area in general most lakes are abovevfull pool. To answer your question the bass that usually go deep are going to do the same. Bass that tend to stay shallow will be up and around the flooded grass and bushes. I hope this helps.

I caught fish all day at Fork in less than 2 feet of water in the flooded vegetation after I fished deep for 2 hours without a bite.
Send it!

The bass that go deep like to stay deep, but those that move around shallow are hard to come by with this new water giving all kinds of cover, forage, etc it causes them to scatter out and they don't seem very active (could be me) give a few good days of sunshine and good weather, the bass should, should find cover and stick around it for awhile.

Toledo has been off IMHO with the water going up and down and dirty has hell and most I have talked to say the same.

Sounds like they might be scattered...but I always fish the banks in rising water....

as someone said, those bass that always go deep will go deep, however some lakes have come up ten feet easily and those bass that go deep might hold off the old grass lines. Bass they stay shallow will be the hard ones to pinpoint cause they now have all the flooded vegetation. With shallow bass on newly risen water my rule is dont cast till you see a swirl or bite, that way you KNOW a fish is there and arent just blindcasting to spots that look good but dont produce, which happens all too often in high water.

I really like fishing the new water at night they seem to really cruise the new stuff once the lights go out. Daytime always seems hit or miss, no cloud cover or pre front storm usually = miss round here.

Shallow fish are more likely to be spread out, deeper fish are an easier bet.
