There is an enclosed fishing pier and bait shop on Joe Pool Lake (on the south side of DFW) at Cedar Hill State Park although it was in pretty shallow water last time I was there about a year ago. I have a link saved to one at Lynn Creek Park on Joe Pool as well but they could both be out of the water by now. Here are some links if you want to call ahead:

http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/joepool/lynn_creek_park.htm

You might also want to consider going to one of the community ponds around. Here is a link sorted by county.

Let us know if we can help with pond recommendations for a certain part of town.

Also, Cedar Hill State Park on Joe Pool and Isle du Bois on Ray Roberts have small kids ponds.

The fishing barge at Lynn Creek Marina is heated, I think, and cost $5 for 12 hours. It is $5 to get into Cedar Hill State Park, but I dont know if this includes the fishing barge or not, and I think it is heated as well. Also try and hit some of the ponds out in that area, I have usually had good luck at them, from the bank !! Good Luck !! grin

My advice is this: Don't have any expectations for the 4 year old and his/her attention span. Bring plenty of toys for them for when he/she gets bored. I have a 7 year old and I still bring binoculars and whatever I can find to keep him entertained when we're not bringing in fish. The payoff is that he still wants to go fishing with me!

WRJ--cedar hill state park has a fishing pier that are good for crappie in the spring. it costs $5 to get in per person and it does include the use of the pier. park closes at 11pm and they will kick you out promptly. the depth next to the "barge" is about 2 feet--deeper parts are about 4-5 feet. havent fished it in about 4 months. you may wanna stick to white rock unless someone else has done any good over in cedar hill.

I don't really know what to type here.

Anyone ever try the barge(s) at Ray Hubbard? The kids gave me a map of the lake for Christmas, and some stink bait and crappie jigs. I don't have a boat, and I didn't know there were barges there. That was a subtle hint, yeah?

I fish Harbour Bay Marina in Rockwall quite often. When it's cold, the crappie bite is usually on at daybreak.
