There is a huge power struggle and it is not about managing the lakes. Johnny

Like Johnny said, Tarrant Regional loves to close lakes to recreation. The very idea of recreational traffic on "their" lakes turns their stomachs. The amount of corruption within the organization is mind blowing. Most of the members of the TRWD board should be in prison, but instead they are making millions of dollars in crooked land deals in the name of public water supply. Makes me sick.

Bridgeport is three feet from my back door and rising...even with the gates open. I support the decision to close it. No conspiracy BS up here. The Big Sandy up here is ROLLING, it goes to EM. You have a lot more water heading that way. I would not look at fishing up here for a week or so, it is a total mess.

I was all over the lake Wednesday and only saw small floating sticks. No logs. I don't understand why they would close the lake. If you build your house in a lake flood plane, like apparently BPG did, it is not boaters responsibility to keep waves out of your house. The lake is only 2.5' above full pool. EM is less than a foot above full pool. I think it is some politician showing his power, because people with money are pressuring him. Johnny is right!

Oh yeah...They are showing their "power" by shutting the lakes down because of flooding. It has happened twice in 15 years I have been here. Another 5 inches or so of rain has fallen since Wednesday. My house is NOT in the flood plain, that is just how much rain we have gotten.

You should stick to a lake you know something about, if in fact there is one.

BP was built in 1931, full pool is 836', it is at 838', and it is not even to conservation pool which is 840'. I am not trying to start an argument with you, I like your post. I am just saying there is no reason to shut down either lake for this weekend. Something is behind it other than the lakes being to full. EM is still less than 1' over full pool.

Stores in RAB are being sandbagged as I write. There is a real danger of the 380 bridge being covered up by water. No one is taking away any freedoms here, it is just Ma nature on a rampage.

Lots of narrow minded people here today. Predicting future rainfall is not an exact science. They have to be conservative and take precautions. Believe it or not, flood control is more important than your right to fish..............

I agree flood control is much more important than fishing. I just have no confidence in Trwd doing things for the reason mentioned. Track record speaks for itself. I lived on Eagle Mountain for 12 years and we had super high water their answer was it is not a flood condition till 5 ft, above full. If it was in your house at less than 5 ft. above full you should not have built your house there. So as always they quote rules to justified what they do. I never want to see someone get flooded if it can be prevented. Johnny

Good points Johnny. This is one of those gray area thing and the older I get the more I realize most everything is a gray area.

Since we are on the subject of lake closures, are there any lakes remotely near Fort Worth that are still open? Is there already a thread on the forum covering this? I was going to play hookie and get the boat out on Monday and Tuesday but all the darn lakes around here are closed! What really stinks is that I am only a five minutes from Eagle Mountain.

I just got off the phone with the Isle Du Bois State Park at Ray Bob and they anticipate their ramps being closed for about another month.
