Lost my L/U Sat. mid-day in the Legends tournament coming out of Penson. Got the call today from Service marine to come pick Big Red up to the tune of $4150.00 Apparently, I'm not pulling the prop off and inspecting it for fishing line around the shaft.. Honestly, until now I really hadn't thought about it that much, I will be going forward I assure you that. Insurance picked up 3300 of the bill the rest is mine, reckon I'll be buying a box of cotter pins and pulling my prop about every 3rd-4th trip out. It's the little things that turn into big things that gets me? Fishing line on my pro shaft cut the seal allowing the L/U oil to leak out... Seriously Just a little FYI, so a little thing won't become a BIG thing..

I pull mine almost every trip. I use a McGard Propeller Lock on mine.
At a minimum I look through the hub for line.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

I was pleasantly surprised when I realized the Pro XS I repowered with had no cotter pins on prop shaft. Makes it one less step to go through.

Interesting. One more thing to add to the to-do list.

The EXACT same thing happened to my buddy 2 summers ago. The next day I went out to check out mine and it had a ton of line in it, but i caught it in time. Check it often guys, the amount of line in mine was shocking.

Sorry to hear that Billy. A while back I was on Arlington idling into the discharge cove. 3 guys in a small boat were tied up to that pole in the middle of the little slough you have to go through. They saw me coming for quite a while. I idled past and waved. As soon as I passed them they started yelling at me. Sure enough, went over their lines and had braid wrapped all around prop. Took the prop off at the shop and let it sit for a couple days. Luckly it didn't tear the seal but you never know. I bet it's one of the top causes of LU failure.

It happened to me a few years ago on vacation at Lake Ouachita. What did the final damage was braid. I check mine periodically now.
