I am curious how many run fish finders on their yak's? Maps, are they worth it?
I got a Lowrance Mark 4 Chirp. I have never used them before so, it won't do me any good until I learn how to work that thing.

I have Lowrance elite 3x that i run on my kayak. Just sonar, no maps. I use my phone ( in a waterproof case ) for any mapping needs. I could see it being handy for marking good spots though. I tend to fish the same area's so i just kinda remember the general location.

I use a Lowrance elite-4 hdi. I love having the dual image, broadband and DSI. I use the navionics app on my phone for maps, waypoint etc... I would love to have side imaging, but $$$

I figured $200 was about all I could bring myself to spend and I figured it would work good as I have no idea how it works just yet.

GPS and maps are worth it if you do any night time or big lake fishing (the lake has to be big enough to be mapped by navionics/Lowrance, Humminbird,Garmin, etc) So if you fish mostly in the daytime on smaller lakes (White Rock, Bachman, Grasslands, etc), no need for GPS or lake maps.

Good point collincountytx. I don't want to limit myself so, GPS with my Lowrance for under $200 seemed like a deal I couldn't pass up. I will wait for the maps until I am more comfortable and have some fishing buddies.

I got a lowrance elite 4x chirp I've yet to use. All my regular lake accesses are flooded so it's hard to get out. Can't wait to use it though!

Humminbird 597ci HD DI with maps. Helps find the places I have caught fish and also avoid snags. Helps run the right depth contour when trolling.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

GPS is priceless when one of those sudden dense fogs rolls in. Especially around the Intracoastal Waterway. A compass can tell you which direction you've paddled, but not how far. As far as the sonar, many folks want fancy. I tend to stay basic; a simple monochromic unit with greyscale will tell me everything I need to know. However, most of my fishing is shallow sightcasting at redfish, and the sonar isn't even on.
