From LMFRF LMFRF Member,
OK, they are getting around for looks. OKDOT was down removing trees from swim beach bridge because thats 259A and covered by them. It looks OK. Eddies bridge looks to be OK but the handicap walkway on the upstream side was demolished. Evening Hole and Cold Hole bridges are destroyed. Dont know if the culvert for Cold Hole is still there, water too high to tell. Water also too high to get a feel for Evening Hole itself. We will see.
Pictures of damage are on the website - Photos of the 2015 Flood-Updated 5/27.
Don Groom has already been up to look. His boss, maybe Barry Bolton, and possibly the Commission (or some of them) are scheduled to survey the damage.
I reminded him that our primary mission is the improvement and maintenance of the LMF trout fishery. If they need funds or funding to get matching funds for any and all repairs, to please get hold of us.
I do not know how or who is going to be responsible for, or when, the bridges will be repaired. That is a park road, not covered by OKDOT. But I hope Mike Love still has the phone number for the people that paved last time!
This is going to be a whole new Spillway Creek!
Those are all the facts that I have now.

Yeah I was about to say - once it calms down they will just start dumping stockers in there again. With the looks of the recent pics on FB, might as well just dump them on the ground. Seems they might have the same chance of survival. Not sure why they would stock if there aren't any roads, bridges, or campgrounds.....power, drinking water, ect. I guess we will see, next week is on the schedule.

BTW I read Hwy 259 at TX/OK border is closed at the Red River.

As you can see from the pictures there will be no fishing for at least 2-3 months, again according to my sources they will not stock fish until the clean up work has been completed and the bridges replaced. The lower end of the park near the swim beach may open sooner as it looks like the bridge survived but the road on either side needs to be re-paved. The park access road from the north is gated and locked. Please don't get your hopes up for fishing the river anytime soon. I am hearing that upper spillway to the dam is now a completely different fishery and parts of it may never be safe for fishing due to the fast deep water.....

Thanks for your updates. One source told me that fish were rising by Eddie's bridge already. Looks like at least some of the fish are able to find hiding spots in 21000 cfs.

When the waters subsided (they dropped to 200 CFS) they say the rangers were having to toss fish that were left high and dry back into spillway creek. That's very promising considering it was the fastest current. If that's the case I would imagine all of the fish in the cold hole and below are just fine. Now the question is how much they have to eat?

Before they do a lot of work they need to sit down with the Corp. and see how to prevent this in the future. Too many cases of the Corp flooding people out last couple weeks....time for them to be more pro-active. Crawl out of their shell and see what is going on.

Good point Brad. The scouring effect is what causes fish the most distress. IE-all the insects and food being swept away. Time will tell.

Unfortunately this event may be starting all over again! Go and look at the radar! SE Oklahoma North and West of the lake is just getting pounded with about 1-2" of rain an hour by a storm that is just crawling across the SE part of the state......

Like I mentioned, before repairs start and money spent, they need to talk with Corp.
I for one don't like throwing my money down a toilet and I expect them to think the same.....or atleast hope they do. Cause right now with the flushing going on....its costing people bank!!

The park is not going to initiate any repairs until the threat of flooding is totally gone. IE-lake flood pool is nearly empty, per Jim Miller park manager.

Another quick update on the situation in the park:
The park is CLOSED right now. OKDOT is still needing to send in structural engineers to assess the swim beach bridge. The park is responsible for doing the same on the bridge by Beaver's Bend Fly Shop. This makes getting around in the park impossible for now. There is still no drinking water inside the park.
Broken Bow Lake is still full, IE-at full flood pool level, and there is still rain predicted. Remember that it is not just rain at the lake but runoff from north of the lake that affects the levels.
There is no guarantee that the gates will not open again. Additionally the park is not planning to do any clean up until the rain/release danger is completely past them. This means the flood pool being close to empty. Right now the park and state agencies are in the damage assessment and most basic needs repaired stage. Jim Miller, park manager, is aware that the LMFRF and it's members are here and ready to help. The time to begin volunteering and helping is just not here yet. We will certainly reach out and look for help at the earliest possible time. We certainly appreciate everyone's thoughts and offers and look forward to working with you to rebuild this fishery and park.
Park info is verified through Jim Miller, Beaver's Bend State Park manager.
