Well, it would go out the flood gates from the dam normally. But, with the rains continuing and the creeks already full from runoff, they can only release so much without totally flooding everything downstream.. Keep in mind that Ray Roberts is full and would run into Lewisville, which is full as well. You can't just open the flood gates on both at the same time with rains continuing too. Trinity river is running full banks, and out of it banks in some areas, and again, continued rain and runoff all weekend coming up will minimize the amounts that can be released from the lakes. It will go over the spillway soon which works as an emergency overflow, lol. Just crazy we were in a drought for several years now we have way more than we can hold in our area lakes. It's a good and bad problem at the same time. My garden and yard sure are loving the rain!

They are letting out over 6000 cfs out of Lewisville, almost 7000 cfs Ray Roberts and 1257cfs for Grapevine. Still not enough to keep them from rising. With the rain their talking Sat. and Sunday They may all go over the spillways. It will be July or August before they are open again.

If Ray Roberts goes over the spillway then Lewisville is in grave danger as is everything downstream. Lewisville dam already has a bad seep that is flowing constantly and the spillway is cracked in places and is badly degraded. Lewisville is now only 18" down from going over. Grapevine can hold another 10+ feet before it goes. I think elev 560 is GV's limit.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Looks like Ray Bob can only hold 4 more feet before it goes. Spillway elev is 645.5

Seems odd that with low lake levels the past 3 yrs or so that the COE wouldn't have fixed any cracks or issues with the spillway at Lewisville.

Lewisville is listed on the top ten dangerous dams list, mainly because it has some problems and a failure would result in significant loss of life; however, the COE has stated the dam is not in danger. Keep in mind...since Lewisville is much bigger...a foot on Grapevine is not the same as a foot on Lewisville.

I could launch my boat right on the road and float up and pay my ramp fee. Heck...that would be better than any of the normal ramps.
